documentary photography: a personal statement

I love the emotional connections, the stories and the moments that make a wedding day special. Consequently, I try to be as inconspicuous as possible when shooting your wedding--all the while staying emotionally engaged in the events all around me.

Great documentary photographers concentrate on finding "decisive moments" to create compelling and expressive imagery. These moments don't just record what happened neutrally, but add personal and artistic insight to reflect the spirit of the occasion or event. Henri-Cartier Bresson, Robert Doisneau, André Kertész, W. Eugene Smith, Diane Arbus and James Nachtwey are just some of the photographers who inspire me with their powerful portrayals. Their mastery of the play of light, movement, composition and structure create new ways of understanding an event and its importance.

I like to approach your wedding in the same way: to find those moments that matter most on your wedding day and create images that express their emotional impact.
